Unleash your child’s curiosity with our guide on how to grow beans in a bag! Explore science concepts through this engaging activity that make learning fun and interactive.

My children and I love incorporating hands-on projects and learning into our homeschool curriculum. Science is probably the best and easiest subject to do that with. Not only can you see God’s creation as you work through it, but your children get to take something and turn it into something else. One of the best spring science activities for kids is to grow beans in a bag. It’s so easy, inexpensive, and fun!
Gather Your Supplies:
- My Sprout House
- Colored Cardstock or construction paper
- Ziplock bags (sandwich size)
- Paper towels
- Water
- Lima beans (or other beans)
- Stapler
- Tape
How to Grow Beans in a Bag:
First, print or copy The Sprout House printable onto colored cardstock or construction paper. You could also print on thick paper and color.
Next, cut out the house and the “window”.
After that, dampen a paper towel with water and fold so it fits inside the plastic bag.
Place a few lima beans inside the bag on the moist paper towel.
Next, close the bag and staple the “house” on top so that you can see the seeds through the “window”.
The sunlight and wet paper towel will create condensation and continue to provide water, but if you notice the paper towel drying out, open the bag and spray a few times.
Finally, tape the sprout house to a window that gets enough sunlight and watch as the seeds begin to sprout and grow.
