More Than Just a Day Off: Using President’s Day to Teach Civics

My children and I love taking a break from our normal homeschool curriculum and engage in holiday learning. President’s Day is one that allows us to truly focus on social studies. We love learning about our favorite presidents and ones we don’t know as much about.

Today, I wanted to bring a round up of President’s Day activities with homeschoolers in mind. From engaging learning resources to games and fun.

What is President’s Day?

President’s Day is a federal holiday in the United States that celebrates our presidential leaders. It was originally to commemorate George Washington. There is also a strong emphasis on President Abraham Lincoln.

When is President’s Day celebrated?

Presidents Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. It was established in 1885.

What are you supposed to celebrate on Presidents Day?

My children and I use President’s Day as a day to focus on government leadership. We talk about the strengths and weaknesses of many of our nation’s current and former leaders.
